Pretend to ride the bus to school!
  • Let the children set up chairs in a row to represent a car or a bus.
  • Place a cardboard box out of which one side has been cut in front of the chairs.
  • Use stiff paper or a plastic plate for a steering wheel, which can be decorated.
  • Make a stick shift out of a dowel onto which a tennis ball is glued at one end.
  • Give the “bus driver” a set of old keys to use (make a slit in the cardboard box to insert the key).

The children can bounce in their seats as the bus pretends to go down the road. A tilt board or T-stools (two boards attached in the shape of a T) can also be added as seats on the bus. Children who need (or want) practice with balance may use these as seats on the bus.
