Sensorimotor Level [more on levels]

Although the children at the sensorimotor level will probably not understand the role play of a bus, they may enjoy sitting on a rocking board and imitating their friends bouncing and jiggling in the bus. The rocking movement provides vestibular stimulation and promotes use of postural adjustments (righting against gravity) and balance.

Encourage these children to imitate the motor movements of their friends as they move down the path in different ways. Children who cannot walk can maneuver on their bottoms, roll, scoot, creep, or crawl.

Functional Level

All of the points mentioned for children at the sensorimotor level apply to children at the functional level as well.

Symbolic Level

All of the above (for both levels) apply to children at the symbolic level as well.
