Read "The Kissing Hand," and talk about how the children feel about coming to school. Discuss how some children feel happy and excited and other children feel worried or sad. The children can identify what they like to do at home and what they want to do at school. At the end of the story, give each child a kiss on the palm, and have them hold it to his or her cheek to feel the warmth of love. The use of hearts to signify love and friendship is seen throughout this story. You can build on this theme each day at the end of reading the story by giving each child a small paper heart to put in his or her pocket or cubby, by kissing each childs palm, or by stamping a heart on the palm or back of each childs hand. |
